If you or a loved one has cancer, the most important thing is getting access to the best possible treatments, considering all the factors, such as diagnosis and personal preferences. This page explains some of the latest ways to treat cancer, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and genetics.
GenesisCare is the leading provider in the UK of independent cancer care, and our specialist cancer centres are dedicated to the treatment of all types of adult cancer, including many of the latest innovations we describe here. Please get in touch if you’d like to know more about a specific treatment.
There are also many new types of treatment which are used to treat different types of stages of cancer. For example, Theranostics is an innovative and personalised approach that combines diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy to seek and destroy advanced cancers without damaging healthy tissue.
At GenesisCare we work with teams of national and regional cancer experts and invest in many of the latest cancer innovations that are proven to be safe and effective for our patients. As a global company, we have access to many of the latest techniques and innovations from around the world that are proven to be safe and effective.
The aim of radiotherapy is to direct enough radiation energy to destroy cancer cells, without damaging healthy tissue and any important organs close to your cancer. Modern radiotherapy systems are designed to be very effective at achieving this.
At GenesisCare we use modern, advanced radiotherapy and offer this to all of patients who need it, tailoring treatment to each one to give the best possible outcome. At each of our cancer centres we have:
For certain types of localised cancer, for example prostate, it’s now possible to complete radiotherapy safely, in fewer treatments (fractions) without reducing the effectiveness of treatment. This is called hypofractionation.
Why is this important?
Our teams are experts in this technique and we offer hypofractionation radiotherapy to every patient who can benefit from this and we offer hypofractionation radiotherapy wherever possible to patients who can benefit from this.
We’re the first independent provider in the UK to introduce the MRIdian radiotherapy machine for highly accurate hypofractionation of a wide range of cancers, like lung, liver, kidney, pancreas and prostate.
It includes a high definition MR scanner so it can ‘see as it treats’ and precisely target tumours that move or are difficult-to-reach.
These days there are many different types of anti-cancer drugs including:
We provide a full range of the latest chemotherapy treatments in private suites with one-to-one care from our dedicated cancer nurses. Our centres have the MacMillan Quality Environment Mark and we’re specialists in helping our patients through their treatment.
Genomic profiling is a rapidly advancing area of medicine that helps up to understand more about each patient’s cancer — how fast it could progress and which chemotherapy and immunotherapy drugs are likely to be most effective. At GenesisCare we’re use genetic profiling wherever possible for our patients and by focusing on only the most effective treatments this way, we can avoid unnecessary side effects.
At GenesisCare, we personalise our treatments by using genetic profiling wherever possible. This means we can focus on only the most effective treatments to avoid unnecessary side effects.
If cancer has spread to other parts of the body from where it started it is said to have metastasised. Although it’s harder to treat, there are still many new therapies that can help to slow the growth and spread, as well as alleviating symptoms. These include new radiotherapy treatments, such as stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) and many types of anti-cancer drugs.
At our GenesisCare neuro–oncology centres, we specialise in the stereotactic radio surgery (SRS), with teams of highly-skilled specialist neuro surgeons and neuro oncologists working together to improve quality of life for people with secondary brain and spinal cancers.
We’re also pioneering the use of Theranostics – known as search and destroy cancer treatment – which uses special radioactive isotopes to find and treat cancer cells that can’t be reached with conventional therapies.
At GenesisCare, we set exceptionally high clinical standards in everything we do. We’re continuously introducing new and better ways to treat cancer, but only after we have rigorously examined every aspect of the benefits and safety.
We work together with teams of leading cancer specialists to design and deliver better ways to improve life outcomes for our patients. As a patient, that means a complete care plan tailored around you, from the latest genomic profiling and precision medicine to life-changing exercise medicine and supportive wellbeing and precision medicine, to advanced radiotherapy techniques as standard. We know cancer can be a challenging time. That's why we offer wellbeing therapies, through our unique partnership with the charity Penny Brohn UK, to support you through your cancer treatment and beyond. At many of our centres, we also provide exercise medicine, which is proven to help people with cancer through their treatments by speeding up recovery and improving your quality of life. We offer these integrated cancer treatments at no extra cost to you or your insurer.
