Genesis Cancer Care UK Limited (“GenesisCareUK”) is committed to preventing acts of modern slavery and human trafficking from occurring within its business and supply chains and imposes the same expectation on its suppliers.
GenesisCareUK is a UK-based business with the majority of our suppliers originating in countries where modern slavery and human trafficking is not classified as a high risk. However, the organisation takes this issue seriously operating a zero-tolerance approach.
The organisation, in its day-to-day business, operates to develop and implement practices and processes aimed at preventing the business and our supply chains from being impacted or influenced by modern slavery or human trafficking. We expect the same high standards of all our business partners, suppliers and contractors, and their own suppliers, wherever they are based.
We continue to develop and implement practices and processes that identify and mitigate the risk of our business and our external supply chains from being impacted or influenced by modern slavery.
GenesisCareUK – Who we are
We are highly trained healthcare professionals, corporate and support staff with 16 treatment centres operating across the U.K. (including two subsidiary companies) designing and delivering innovative treatments and care for people with cancer.
We are a private limited company.

Organisational Structure and Operations
GenesisCare is a global group of companies delivering treatment to people with cancer and heart disease, the two largest disease burdens globally. As a group, we are committed to leading the change in how care is given and are currently leading or participating in more than 150 clinical trials. The global group employs or otherwise engages more than 5,500 highly trained clinicians, healthcare professionals and support staff across Australia, UK, Europe, and the U.S. Every year GenesisCare’s group clinical teams see more than 440,000 patients at more than 440 locations. For cancer treatment, that includes more than 300 locations in the U.S., 38 locations in Australia, 16 in the UK and 21 in Spain, with more than 30 new centres under development.
Our Governance and Values
The GenesisCare Board is responsible for overseeing the performance and operation of the GenesisCare group. The Board and the Board’s sub-committees develop the group’s vision, values and governance framework and monitors the group’s culture and clinical and corporate risks.
Oversight and reporting regarding anti-slavery initiatives is provided by the Board’s Audit & Risk Committee and People & Culture Committee. Responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of the group’s vision and values is delegated to GenesisCare’s local Executive Leadership Team.

Covid-19 has continued to cause unprecedented challenges to businesses worldwide over the course of the last 12 months. GenesisCare remains committed to acting promptly to ensure the welfare of its patients and staff, and to maintain open lines of communication with suppliers to understand how Covid-19 impacted their operations and supply chains. With significant and ongoing pressure on global businesses, GenesisCare remains vigilant in its approach to identification and assessment of modern slavery risks during this prolonged period of heightened risk. During the pandemic, it has been necessary for the organisation to broaden its supply chain and engage with new suppliers on a global scale. Despite the difficulties in maintaining continuous supply chains, GenesisCare has required suppliers to conduct business in-line with the organisation’s standard terms and which include compliance with Modern Slavery legislation in the UK.
The Covid-19 pandemic had an unprecedented impact on the healthcare sector. As we manage the ongoing disruptions to global supply chains caused by this pandemic, we recognise that strong due diligence regarding human rights and other business integrity issues are more important than ever – in particular, in the procurement of medical goods where there may be hazardous working conditions, exploited labour and / or complex multi-tiered supply chains operating in higher-risk jurisdictions.
We continue to work to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and business partners as the pandemic persists.
Our Policy Framework and Training
GenesisCare’s values form the foundation of its policies and procedures, each of which seek to ensure that GenesisCare operates ethically and with integrity.
GenesisCare has a broad suite of policies the implementation of which is overseen by its People & Culture team, including its Whistleblowing and Raising Concerns Policy. The group’s policies and training, are an important part of GenesisCare’s internal governance framework.
In the UK, our commercial teams receive modern slavery and human trafficking information and awareness. All staff, in whatever their role within the organisation, are required to comply with the UK corporate Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy which is reviewed and updated annually. This policy, first implemented in 2016, provides education on the subject, offers guidance on what to do if staff believe that any form of modern slavery is taking place within the business or supply chain, and how to manage any breach of the requirements of the policy.
This UK Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy will be reviewed in light of forthcoming changes in the regulatory environment and thereafter will be updated so that it has global application to our business.
GenesisCare also prepares an annual modern slavery statement in respect of its Australian operations in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth). While we currently report separately to explain how we have addressed the respective reporting criteria under the Australian and the UK legislation, our commitment to combatting modern slavery risks remains consistent across these jurisdictions. GenesisCare publishes its modern slavery statement in respect of its Australian operations on its Australian website.
In addition, in the UK our clinical staff and many other staff members in key roles, receive training in safeguarding which defines modern slavery and human trafficking as forms of abuse. Our Safeguarding Policies advise on how to recognise and report this abuse to relevant authorities and what channels to use.
GenesisCare introduced Freedom to Speak Up Guardians last year and training on our modern slavery obligations and the Modern Slavery Act was implemented for these individuals.
Procurement and our supply chain
As a global organisation, GenesisCare acquires a wide range of goods and services, covering products and services used in the provision of treatment to our patients and goods and services serving our corporate business needs. Multiple suppliers fulfil those needs, each of which has its own supply chain, resulting in a complex variety of end-to-end supply chains.
The key categories of goods and services procured by GenesisCare include:
- medical equipment (including associated maintenance services) and medical consumables;
- corporate business products and technology, and professional services; and
- facilities management services, cleaning services and linen supply services.
Our suppliers range in size from those with a global footprint to local suppliers servicing local need. In all cases GenesisCare seeks to partner with suppliers that align with our values and commitments to mitigating the risks of modern slavery.
In order to ensure that supplier organisations comply with our own standards and values, we have put in place and will continue to develop a number of measures to assess and manage supply chain risk. These include undertaking due diligence on our key suppliers, mandating key standards and expectations during procurement exercises, the use of mandatory compliance terms in our supply contracts, and the requirement to adhere to the organisation’s Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy. Our focus is identifying higher risk suppliers by category of product and services offered and/or the location of their operations.
We are not currently aware of any realised material issues relating to modern slavery risks or practices impacting a supplier engaged by GenesisCare. Where a supplier cannot satisfy us on their approach to modern slavery, we will review the continued use of that supplier with a view to changing to a supplier which is able to meet our standards and offer relevant assurances.
As we continue to develop our global approach to modern slavery, we will implement other appropriate means of assuring ourselves of supplier compliance, such as audit and introducing further due diligence when procuring new services or suppliers.
- Refining the Due Diligence Process: GenesisCare will continue to develop its supplier due diligence process to ensure that it is current and effective. This will include developing and reviewing the content of modern slavery questionnaires for suppliers and staying abreast of best practice within the industry. We will expand the due diligence undertaken in respect of existing suppliers with a focus on strategically important suppliers and those that are considered to operate within a higher risk category having regard to the sector or geography in which they operate.
- Training Our People and Increased Employee Engagement: GenesisCare will seek deliver updated modern slavery training to all existing employees and all new employees joining the organisation in 2022. We intend to issue a survey to training participants to obtain feedback to inform future training initiatives and provide insight into how we can improve.
- Update Policies and Procedures: In 2022, we intend to release a revised global procurement policy to align our expectations and management of modern slavery risks in our supply chains and to ensure compliance with relevant regulation, including the modern slavery legislation in each territory where we operate.
- Contract Governance Tool: GenesisCare plans to implement an electronic system to assist in our management of contracts and associated risks.
This system will store the results of the supplier questionnaires, including the score / rating assigned to the supplier and which is used in the ongoing risk assessment regarding modern slavery. Any areas of concern will be reviewed in partnership with the relevant business unit and actions taken if needed.
Assessing our Effectiveness in Preventing Modern Slavery
In order to assess the effectiveness of the measures taken by GenesisCareUK we will continue to review the following key performance indicators over the next year:
- the number of high risk category suppliers identified through our due diligence.
- the number of suppliers responding with positive responses to our due diligence questions and confirming that they have had no incidents of modern slavery (both as a real number and as a percentage of those suppliers requested to provide such confirmation).
- the number of GenesisCare employees trained on modern slavery and human trafficking.
- the number of reports of Modern Slavery and remedial actions taken as a result.
All new or updated supply contracts continue to include mandatory anti-slavery compliance terms and all construction projects incorporate adherence to the GenesisCareUK Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy as a term of the contract awarded.
Further steps to prevent Modern Slavery in our supply chain
Our approach to tackling slavery and human trafficking will evolve and strengthen over time. We continue to take this issue seriously and we will continue to review our approach each year. In 2022, we intend to release a revised global procurement policy to align our expectations and management of modern slavery risks in our supply chains and to ensure compliance with relevant regulation across all territories where the organisation operates. The policy will:
- identify a variety of responsible business conduct risks including human rights, bribery and corruption, money laundering, trade sanctions or denied party transactions; and
- provide the framework for identifying potential risks of engaging, renewing or extending a supplier relationship.
